Cross River Residents Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Emmanuel Hart has urged chairmen of political parties in the state to educate their members to do the right things during elections. Hart gave the advice at a meeting on the forthcoming Northern Senatorial District by-election in the state with the heads of political parties under the auspices of the Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC) on Monday in Calabar. He said political parties should educate their members and the electorate to be law abiding and health conscious during the by-election. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has provided the timeline of COVID-19 response activities for general information from December 2019 when China reported the virus till date. WHO, in a statement issued from its headquarters in Geneva on Monday, stated that the agency would update the timeline on a regular basis and in light of evolving events and new information. The timeline covered a media statement issued on the 31 st  of December, 2019 picked from Wuhan Municipal Health Commission to June 26 when the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator was published. The European Union will continue to ban travellers from the United States and most other countries beyond July 1, EU diplomats tell DPA. Only 14 countries made it onto the list of states that will be allowed into the bloc, including Australia, Canada, and Thailand. Chinese citizens will be allowed in principle – but only once China lifts its ban on EU citizens. The European Council has now initiated the formal written procedure to pass the agreement, according to EU diplomats. The agreement comes three months after the EU – plus Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein – closed its external borders to all non-essential travel due to the coronavirus pandemic. He worked as Ekiti State Bureau Chief of Osun State Broadcasting Radio and Television between 2007 and 2011 and retired as Business Editor in 2018. Olawunmi was appointed as Media Assistant to the former Deputy of Osun State, Sooko Adeleke Adewoyin, under the administration of Governor Bisi Akande between 1999 and 2003. He was also the Acting Director-General of Oranmiyan Group, Deputy Director, Media of Ogbeni Door-To-Door in 2014, and Director Media Ileri Oluwa Campaign Organisation in 2018. A 25-year-old man, Olamilekan Ayanwole, who allegedly attacked a police patrol team by throwing stones at the officers on Monday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun. Ayanwole, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of assault and causing grievous injuries. The prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant with others still at large committed the offences on Saturday at 11:10 pm in front of Stanbic IBTC Bank, Lagere Area, Ile-Ife. Osanyintuyi said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner that could cause breach of public peace by throwing stones at Insp Akande Ferdinand and his team while executing their lawful duty. Festus Keyamo The Federal Government says it will recruit 1,000 itinerant, unskilled workers in each of the 774 Local Government Areas (LGA), in the country from October to December for roads rehabilitation, construction, sanitation, among others. Mr Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, said this during the inauguration of the States’ Selection Committees for the Extended Special Public Works Programme on Monday in Abuja. Keyamo said that the programme was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari and aimed principally at recruiting 774,000 itinerant and unskilled Nigerians. Alhaji Sabo Nanono The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono on Monday said the Federal Government has earmarked N600 billion to enhance farmer access to agricultural financing in the country. Nanono said that about 2.4 million farmers were targeted to benefit from the interest free facility, designed to encourage application of modern technologies in rice and cash crop cultivation. The minister made the disclosure at the inauguration of the 2020 wet season rice cultivation support programme at Tofai community in Gabasawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
