PDP members, others to join APC in Lagos — Official

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos says some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and others have indicated interest to join the party in the ongoing membership registration and revalidation.

Alhaji Tunde Balogun, Lagos APC Caretaker Chairman, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Balogun said the APC was prepared to register all members of opposition parties who had shown willingness to join it.

“Our doors are open to all members of political parties who want to join us. We expect some PDP members, who really are willing to join us in developing Lagos to do so.

“Many of them have been showing interest and we are prepared to register them from the PDP to the AA and others. We are happy to accept them into the progressives,” Balogun said.

The caretaker chairman urged all APC members across the length and breadth of the state to troop out for the membership registration and revalidation.

“My advice to our members is to come out en mass as members of the APC when the registration starts.

“They must come out en mass as members of the APC to register. I appeal to them all to come out when the exercise starts.

Balogun noted the exercise had commenced with the symbolic registration of President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, followed by some other notable APC leaders as a mark of honour before general members.

He said that more information would be made available on the exercise before the end of the week.

According to him, what is going on now is the movement of inaugurated registration committee from Abuja to different states for the exercise.

When asked about the expected number of members the party intended to register, Balogun said the exercise should be allowed to start first.

NAN recalls that the exercise commenced on Jan. 25 with a series of activities, including the inauguration of membership registration and revalidation committee at the APC Secretariat in Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday revalidated his membership of the APC in his constituency in Daura, Katsina.

The anatomy of EndSars protests as an incomplete revolution (1)

By Douglas Anele Supposing an alien from another planet or solar system visits the earth with capacity to rank the various races of human beings according to their contributions to civilisation particularly in the last six hundred years or so, that alien would perhaps place the black race at the lowest grade. And because Nigeria contains the greatest concentration of black people in the world (one in every four black persons is a Nigerian according to one estimate), a race that worked with European and Arab enslavers to sell their own people like commodities and shamelessly adopted the bizarre religions of their oppressors, it is probably not out of place to assume that that may be the reason the country has been retrogressing for decades. The history of denigrating black people is long and heart-wrenching. Not only do the scriptures of Abrahamic religions contain passages that dehumanise black people, philosophers as enlightened as John Locke, David Hume, Immanuel Kant and G.W.F. ...

10-kilometre walk in rememberance of Bruce Mayrock (1949 – 1969)

By Chike Anyaonu I got to know about this name, Bruce Mayrock, some four years ago through Barrister CHUDI Ofodile’s book titled The Politics of Biafra: and The Future Of Nigeria and published by Safari Books Limited, Ibadan in 2016. Ever since then, I have been trying to dig deeper and deeper into the archives to learn more about this young altruistic, dynamic and benevolent personality. An enigma of sorts, for that matter. Ofodile had, in chapter seven of his book, cited Bruce as one of “Biafra’s non- Igbo actors”, those who participated in one way or the other to fight the cause of the ill-fated Republic of Biafra that were not of Igbo origin. One of them who is still alive today is Wole Shoyinka. Though this write up is a kind of joint tribute to all of them, Bruce Mayrock, for me, deserves a special and everlasting mention. He was not an African, but a citizen of the United States of America. So what concerned a 20-year-old university student   in America with what ...
